The lucky gimp, part 1 (my life with a disability)

My legs, because I was born with a disability, a lot happens in my mind when I put those two words together. Sometimes, my legs feel like two trees—just as inflexible, just as immovable. I have cerebral palsy. I never liked the name of my condition.

When asked, more likely I'd refer to it as CP. It was specifically the word “cerebral” that I objected to—I had to deal with prejudice on so many levels in my life, I felt putting the word “cerebral” in the mix wouldn't help matters.

Our thoughts come from our minds and the mind is where our personalities come from. Many would say that the mind determines a person's potential as well.  This is why telling people that I have something wrong with my mind didn’t appeal to me.

But, as bleak as all of that may seem, it's one-sided. In truth, I am lucky...
